Our latest cinema workshop in New Jersey entitled Mastering the DSLR Short-Form Wedding was a big success as more than 25 people representing 7 states were in attendance to up their game. Video is coming soon but for now here are some great photos taken by attendee Jon Armstrong who traveled from Washington DC to be there. Jon also wrote a great blog post about the workshop which gives some great insights to what we covered. Head over to his blog here

Keeping the blog posts coming.  I’ll hopefully have a lot more to write about.  Actually, I do, but have just been prepping for my upcoming cinema workshop and of course nursing the arthritis in my right hand caused by clutching a mouse during hours-long edit sessions.  The good news is, here’s another film from this past season.  This is the story of Jessica and Mike, whose family members are part owners of The Palace at Somerset.  They pulled out all the stops for this family affair and ending the night with a bang.  Several hundred of them.   Here’s the preview of their upcoming wedding film.

I’m so behind on blogging.  For those of you who actually keep up with my video posts on Vimeo, you will notice a few new uploads in recent weeks but for those of you who check the blog periodically, you might get the impression that I’ve been on hiatus or being held by hostages somewhere in Afghanistan.  Not the case.  I’m alive and well, just busy editing.  Crazy busy.  I have a few new videos to blog about but let’s start with Nicole and John, who had a really cool affair in Brooklyn at a great place called My Moon.  It’s right in the heart of Williamsburg and I personally love the intimacy and style of this venue.  Check out Nicole’s bouquets as you watch this film, they are made from Anthropology door knobs.  Really different, very sheik.

I also wanted to do something I don’t usually get to do and that’s post the reaction to the same day edit along with the film itself.  The top video below is the film side-by-side with the bride and groom’s reaction as they watched it live at their reception and the bottom video is the film itself in anamorphic widescreen.

Happy New Year to you all and be sure to check back soon as I continue to post some of the best weddings of 2011.

Sometimes I wish I could just use a real ARRI camera to film my weddings.   They allow for anamorphic recording.   For those of you non-movie-buffs, that means the screen is really wide.  To me, the way you can tell a story in an anamorphic aspect ratio is so much more fulfilling than a [...]

Sometimes I wish I could just use a real ARRI camera to film my weddings.   They allow for anamorphic recording.   For those of you non-movie-buffs, that means the screen is really wide.  To me, the way you can tell a story in an anamorphic aspect ratio is so much more fulfilling than a standard 16:9 widescreen so commonly used today.  For Jackie and Jesse’s wedding, I just went ahead and made my footage anamorphic in post-production.  A tedious workflow but so worth it when you see the difference it makes in the film.  Here is a prime example using Jackie and Jesse’s same day edit.

There’s a town near our home-base here at the Jersey Shore known as Rumson.   It’s home to legendary rockers Job Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen.  It also has some of the most beautiful riverfront in all the east coast.  I would say it was a beautiful day in Rumson, NJ for Jillian and Chris’ wedding ceremony and then the reception in the backyard of Jillian’s parent’s home on the Shrewsbury River, but the truth is, it rained.  It rained and the wind was nasty to say the least.  Jillian and Chris put some effort into making sure all of their guests had umbrellas to match the wedding decor, but they didn’t last long.  You will see why in their film preview ;)

Nonetheless, the wedding was beautiful and Jillian and Chris could not have been more accommodating and easy to work with as they didn’t let the poor weather dampen their spirits.   Here’s the preview teaser for their upcoming wedding film from Your’s Truly.

Thanks for checking back!

Photography and legendary Jersey Shore band Brian Kirk and the Jerks for rockin’ the house.

Merri-Makers Water’s Edge is one of those venues. It’s situated right on the Atlantic Ocean and is just minutes away from the best of what NJ has to offer in terms of great photo locations. Shannon and Dave took some photos at historic Monmouth University at the very building that posed as Daddy Warbuck’s palace in “Annie the Movie.”

This is the trailer for their upcoming wedding film which we entitle THE GOOD LIFE.
